Storm Tips

Tips for your devices during hurricane season:

  1. Backup your data. Make sure that you have all of your data backed up. You can purchase an external hard drive that can travel with you if the need to evacuate should arise. You can also utilize cloud storage. Cloud storage stores your data on a server in a remote location that you can access later from any location.
  2. Scan important paperwork. Scan in any insurance documents (renter’s, homeowner’s, flood, auto, etc.), medical records, pet records, etc. Make sure that you have a copy of important documents you can access from anywhere.
  3. Move electronics. Move your computers, printers, tablets, etc. to a raised place away from spots they can get wet such as away from doors, floors, and windows.
  4. Invest in a good Surge Protector. This will help with fluctuations in power when the power goes off and comes back on.

  5. Invest in a good Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS). A UPS will provide emergency power for a limited time allowing you to properly shut down your devices and save documents.

  6. Buy a solar charger. These devices will allow you to power your phone and/or tablet by using the sun. These are great, especially if the power is out for more than a few hours.
